MENTAL & PHYSICAL HEALTH

Physical Health & Wellness

Maintaining one’s physical well-being isn’t just about mental health. Working out through fun activities is a great way for your child to stay fit and in good physical health. PS 30M offers activities from basketball to yoga. These activities help boost confidence, cooperation, and coordination. They also help build strong bones and muscles. Staying active to maintain optimal health has never been more important.

Mental Health & Emotional Wellness

Academic success and mental health go hand and hand, so we focus on students’ mental health. Our students are given time to process their emotions. They are also encouraged to practice emotional regulation with professionals.

Mental health professionals include a psychologist and a guidance counselor. Your child’s expert advisors also include social workers. These social workers are from the DOE and United Community Schools. With this team, we provide in-school, referral-based, 1:1 counseling.

We also offer social and emotional learning (SEL) programs such as Yale’s RULER curriculum. RULER stands for “recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, and regulating.” PS 30M uses Restorative Justice Circles, too. It’s all about creating predictable routines and structure.

We may have a teacher-led school, but we encourage our students to express themselves. When students feel heard, they are empowered. They also gain the confidence to conquer any challenge, supported every step of the way!
