LITERACY & READING

Children should fall in love with reading and writing. With both skills, they can learn anything. They can also learn how to communicate effectively.

Critical thinking skills grow, too. We build these skills by discussing books read at home or in the classroom. Our focuses breakdown into:
-
Independent Reading - Students get to read for an extended time to help build great reading habits. And during this time, students also analyze what they have read, and they share their thoughts as well.

-
Guided Reading - We push students to read above their grade level. And, with a teacher by their side, students receive help with their reading. Our main goal is to help our students grow as readers.

-
Read Aloud - Our teachers encourage students to read aloud. This helps students strengthen their vocabulary, build connections between spoken and written words, and boost public speaking confidence.

-
Writing - Through writing, students can express themselves. Writing assignments range from opinion pieces to poems. We then review writing assignments with students to improve how they convey their thoughts and use grammar rules.

-
Reading for 3K to 1st-Grade Students - For the youngest of our students, we teach the basics of literacy - phonics. They learn how to hear, identify, and use units of sound that separates one word from another.
